Where and what is ‘Reading West’? According to Wikipedia “Reading West or West Reading has no formal boundaries, the name is generally used to refer to the area west of Reading’s town centre, to the north of the suburbs of Coley and Southcote, to the east of Tilehurst surbubr and to the south of the Reading to Bristol railway line. As such it includes the densely populated area along and surrounding the Oxford Road as far as the foot of Norcot Hill, which is a typical example of the British town’s rows of terraced houses, as well as the more affluent area to the north of the Bath Road and alongside Tilehurst Road as far as Prospect Park”.
What it means to other people is a veritable mix of things, some fear it, loath it whilst actually many of us love it, regardless of where the boundaries lie. One thing is for sure, it’s a buzzing vibrant place, packed full of takeouts and small independent shops and the best mix of people you’ll find who even actually mix most of the time….
We decided to set up this website as newbies to REading West, who, like others, bought our hummble much loved first house here only after realising that actually it wasn’t such a scarey place to live after all and there were plenty of things to love about it (in our humble opinion).
Back to the facts, (and this website will be packed with them), West Reading is served by Reading West railway station on the local lines between Reading/Basingstoke and Reading/Newbury. Reading Buses operates brilliantly frequent services along the Oxford Road, Bath Road and Tilehurst Road corridors…
