Commuters will soon be stung by a massive price hike after Transport for London (TfL) announced they plan to scrap Day Travelcard tickets, including those added onto National Rail tickets to travel from outside the Oyster zone.
According to MyLondon, if the plans go through, people visiting or working in London who want to use TfL services throughout the day from other parts of the Home Counties, including Berkshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire and Kent, will have to pay for their National Rail fare into London, and then switch to Oyster or contactless where they would be subject to daily capping.
This would mean that commuters from Reading, for example, would face a price increase of around 31 per cent. Commuters ee the cost of an off-peak adult return to Paddington including zones 1-6 Tube travel rise from £29.60 to £38.90 for travelling around London using the underground, buses and more.
At the moemnt is just a consultations. Reading west would encourage as many residents as possible to respond to TfL’s consultation and make their views known before the 23rd May deadline.”
