Starting May 27, passenger trains officially began serving the recently inaugurated Reading Green Park station, strategically positioned along the Reading to Basingstoke line. The establishment of this station was the result of a collaborative endeavor involving Reading Borough Council, Network Rail, and Great Western Railway. The council played a central role in obtaining necessary approvals, securing funding, and overseeing the construction process.

The station’s design was brought to life by Arup, while Balfour Beatty Construction Services UK assumed the role of the main contractor. Bourne Rail and Special Projects contributed the steelwork.

Highlighted features of the station encompass two platforms spanning 150 meters, a fully accessible building, a footbridge that conveniently links both platforms via stairs and lifts, a bus interchange, taxi stand, facilities for cycle parking, and two car parks. Among these amenities are 12 spaces designated for blue badge holders, provisions for drop-off parking, and extended-stay parking tailored to commuters’ needs. A half-hourly service operates in both directions.

Mayor Tony Page expressed, “The novel multimodal interchange stands to markedly enrich accessibility and connectivity within this pivotal region of south Reading. The impending expansion of the business park and residential areas at Green Park, coupled with the envisioned Royal Elm Park mixed-use development, will collectively garner advantages from the introduction of this new station. Furthermore, it will serve as an alternate choice for football aficionados journeying to stadium matches, thus alleviating the pressure on our bustling local roadways.”
