I was a Womad-virgin up until 2019; I had heard of the festival but never thought to attend until this year and it was fab. Moreover only 1 hour from West Reading driving, door to door.
Family friendly experience and the adults get to really enjoy it too. Great foodie experience – goan fish curry and fried halloumi, real burgers and south indian dosa with bajis to name but a few – my mouth is watering again!
Great eco warrior atmosphere, diverse artisan market, great book stalls, drop in guided meditation and general wellbeing area, kids play area was a huge field of fun… adults get to play too!)…new climbing wall just to name a few that we noticed.
Still we needed to stop at the huge a real ale bar… passing by the posh loos (‘pay per poo’ or a weekend pass; there were ordinary portaloos too for the less discerning).
And a festival can’t be a festival without the music line up… highlights for me were Macy Gray – classic soul sister with a unique voice that stands the test of time, and Salif Keta, west African musical royalty – I love his music, his voice and the beat.
We are definitely going next year, for the full four days camping experience!
