The concept of Double-Barrelled originated with co-founders Mike & Luci Clayton-Jones upon their marriage in 2015. Mike, a dedicated home brewer, had long nurtured a passion for crafting beer. Their first branded “Double-Barrelled” beer served as a wedding favor, paying homage to Mike’s surname. Embracing the joy of creating their own beer brand and sharing it on a larger scale, this initial venture laid the foundation for their journey.
Following their wedding, Mike and Luci embarked on a year-long beer exploration, traveling over 84,000 miles worldwide. Their aim was to gather inspiration, source unique ingredients, and observe emerging trends in the beer industry. As they journeyed, they refined their ideas and crafted a business plan. Returning to Reading brimming with excitement for the future, they began brewing on a small commercial scale from their garage in Caversham, all while continuing to work within the industry.
Today, Double-Barrelled operates from a 6,400 SqFt warehouse on the outskirts of Reading. They brew on a 24Hl brewhouse and package all their beers onsite using their own 5-head canning line. Their inaugural beers from this site were released in November 2018.
The brewery produces a diverse range of beers, constantly evolving and available for sale both across the UK and internationally. This success is owed in part to the dedicated and diligent individuals who form the company’s exceptional team.
