Road closures aimed at protecting Reading Festival guests will be introduced for the first time this year.

Richfield Avenue will be closed on the three festival days for two and a half hours around midnight to allow day-ticket holders to walk safely from the site to Reading Station.

The new measure will see Richfield Avenue completely closed between Cardiff Road and Tessa Road from 10.30pm to 1am on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 26, 27 and 28.

Reading Borough Council has advice for people living in the borough on how to beat the traffic jams both before and after the music festival in central Reading, which attracts around 90,000 guests.

Congestion is expected to peak from Wednesday, August 24 and Thursday, August 25 as festival-goers arrive in town – either in their own cars, dropped off by Mum or Dad or taking a taxi from Reading Station.
