In May so far, much of the South-East has had less than two millimetres of rain, and some parts of the UK drier than the Sahara Desert.
According to the Met Office, this Spring is almost certain to become the fourth driest since records began in 1862. It will rank behind 1893, 2011 and 1990 for the least amount of rainfall.
This has led to speculation a hosepipe ban could be put into effect soon, as crops struggle and reservoirs lower around the country.
People are, therefore, being urged to be responsible in their use of water and not waste it.
A spokeswoman for Thames Water said the company is keeping ‘a very close eye’ on the situation as the year goes on and although a hosepipe ban is not imminent, it will be brought in if required.
She said: “Hosepipe bans get used when there is a lack of water available, which isn’t currently the case.
“We had a very wet winter which means we’re not currently considering a hosepipe ban but we’ll be keeping a very close eye on reservoir levels and rainfall figures in the coming months.
